Indigenous housing
TAASA has designed and built together with Somabacu, 8 different models of wooden houses of social interest. These began to be built in 2014 and more than 2500 houses have already been built and many more are in the process of being processed with BANHVI. We have worked with financial entities such as: Costa Rica Canada Foundation, Coopenae and Coopealianza.
The Indigenous Regions in which we have had the pleasure of being able to build homes are: Abrojo Montezuma, Bajo el Indio, Quitirrisí, Zapatón, Talamanca, Taymí, Cabecar Aditica, Guaymi La Casona, Nairi Awari, Cabecar Bajo Chirripó, Rey Curre, Salitre, Boruca, Conte Burica, Sibu Kiné, Alto Chirripó, Barras del Colorado, Tortuguero and Ujarrás.
The houses have cross ventilation, making them cool and comfortable. Structured on stilts, so they can be adjusted to any topography, protecting them from humidity, possible floods and rodents. In addition, they were built with certified wood (yellow pine) and sustainable materials, always avoiding waste.
The community is also immersed in the construction of these houses, thanks to the self-management model, since the intention of their designs is that the construction process and the assembly of the pieces is simple, so that the future habitants can be part of this process. In addition, the dimensions of the wood pieces are modulated so that their transportation is easy, considering that many of the Indigenous Regions where these houses are built have difficult access.
Due to the success we have achieved designing specific houses for each community, according to their culture, beliefs, experiences and specific climatic conditions. This houses have been built in different indigenous regions and our intention is to be able to reach the entire national territory.
